Training and Technology Transfer
The Commission on Geoscience Education, Training and Technology Transfer (COGE), in collaboration with the International Geoscience Education Organisation (IGEO) has undertaken a survey of geoscience education across the world in order to:
- identify countries in which pilot Earth Science educational initiatives supported by the International Union of Geological Scientists (IUGS), IGEO and others, are most likely to be successful
- identify Earth Science outreach initiatives that have been successful with a view to promoting these elsewhere in the future
- provide benchmarks of good practice in the Earth science content of the curriculum, for different countries/regions
A copy of the questionnaire is available here [176kb pdf document] for reference.
On the basis of the data generated by this survey, four countries were selected (South Africa, Trinidad, the Philippines and Indonesia). A bid for IYPE funding to run the Earth Science Education Unit (ESEU) http://www.earthscienceeducation.com) pilot projects in three of the four countries (Indonesia could not be included) was submitted on behalf of IGEO and COGE. The bid was not successful. However, data from the surveys remains a valuable resource and will be made available in due course.
